Module 1: Introduction to Home Care
  • Definition and scope of home care
  • Roles and responsibilities of a home caregiver
  • Ethics and professional conduct
Module 2: Basic Nursing Care
  • Personal hygiene and grooming
  • Bed making and patient positioning
  • Vital signs monitoring (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure)
  • Infection control and basic first aid
Module 3: Nutrition and Meal Planning
  • Basics of nutrition
  • Dietary needs of elderly and chronically ill patients
  • Food preparation, feeding assistance, and hydration
Module 4: Medication Management
  • Understanding prescriptions
  • Safe storage and administration of medication
  • Identifying side effects and when to seek help
Module 5: Mobility and Physical Assistance
  • Use of mobility aids (wheelchairs, walkers)
  • Transferring and lifting techniques
  • Fall prevention and safe environment setup
Module 6: Communication and Emotional Support
  • Effective communication techniques
  • Supporting patients with dementia or mental health issues
  • Managing caregiver stress and burnout
Module 7: Emergency Response and Safety
  • Recognizing emergencies
  • CPR and basic life support
  • Emergency protocols and contacting services
Module 8: Documentation and Reporting
  • Keeping patient records
  • Reporting changes in patient condition
  • Confidentiality and privacy laws (HIPAA or local equivalent)

Entry Qualification:

  • Minimum age requirement: Must be 16 years old
  • Secondary School Pass
  • Working Experience: Matured candidate (i.e. minimum 25 years old with 3 years of working experience) with another relevant certificate qualification.
  • The final decision concerning admission to the programme rests with the Academic Advisory Board
